Dog Club FAQs
-
Do I need to wait until my dog has had all its vaccinations?
The best person to answer this is your vet. Please check with them when your puppy or dog is allowed to mix with others. We cannot accept new members without seeing their vaccination certificate.
-
What should my dog wear?
Dogs must wear a properly fitting collar with ID tag on it bearing the owner's name and address. Don't forget your lead! No harnesses, chains and definitely no extendable leads!
-
What should I wear?
Sensible flat shoes and comfortable clothing with an easily accessible pocket for treats. Please bear in mind in the summer months we will train outside when possible.
-
What should I bring?
A favourite dog toy, a mat or blanket to lie on and plenty of high value treats. These need to be your dog's favourite chopped up really small (even for large dogs, no bigger than your little finger nail). Don't forget poo bags, which must be taken away with you.
We might from time to time ask you to bring other things to some classes – we’ll let you know about these.
-
Will I need to practice with my dog in between classes?
Yes, yes and yes! Aim to practice in short bursts (no more than 3 minutes at a time) up to 10 times a day for the best results! Anything you can do is a bonus - your dog will tell us if you haven’t practiced.
-
Can I bring the family?
Family members are welcome to watch training sessions from the seating area. However we ask that only one handler is on the floor with the dog who is training. All children must be supervised by an adult in the seating area. Children are not allowed on the training side of the hall unless invited by the instructor.
-
What happens if I can't make it?
Let your instructor know if your are unable to attend a class. If we haven't heard from you for 3 weeks, your place will be given to someone else and you will have to rejoin the waiting list to re-attend.
-
My dog is being sick - can we still come?
If a dog has been poorly and is off his food or even just unusually listless, it's better not to bring him to class until he's fully recovered. We need to make sure that all the dogs in class are kept fit and well, so please do let us know if your dog has been unwell and we will advise you whether to come or not.
We would also always recommend asking your vet's advice if you think your dog is unwell. -
Can I bring my female dog in season?
Please don't bring dogs in season to class. This would be distracting for other class members. Please let your trainer know in the usual way if you can't attend.
-
What if my dog has had an operation?
Please ask your vet for advice about when your dog is fit to return to class.
-
What happens when classes are cancelled?
In the event of cancellation of classes at short notice (e.g. due to adverse weather conditions) there will be a notice posted on the facebook page.
-
How much is it?
Membership for the club runs from the beginning of April to the end of March. The current fee is £15 annually. Members joining part way through the year pay £15 to join, which covers them until April.
There is a £4 fee payable for each training session.
-
Where can I park?
You can park on the private lane leading up to the training centre. Please make sure that you leave adequate space for other vehicles to pass. Also, please be careful of pedestrians and dogs when turning your vehicle at the end. Unfortunately we are unable to accept any responsibility for loss or damage to vehicles, which are parked at your own risk.
Please avoid parking next to the main main road on the grass verge. If you are parking in local streets, please do so with consideration for our neighbours.
